The most reliable way to get a good TV signal in your motorhome is through satellite TV. There are several types of satellite dishes you can buy, depending on your type of vehicle and your budget.
The three essential types of motorhome satellite dishes are: portable tripod mounted dishes, roof-mounted crank-up dishes and/or fully automatic dishes.
Tripod Satellite Dishes are the most budget friendly and yet good performing dishes, but are easily blown over in high winds! Unless you secure them with peaks, but you might find this fiddly.
Roof-mounted dishes are the most secure, but also more expensive. The crank-up dishes have to be manually wound up to the correct angle using the supplied elevation meter, and wound down again before you continue with your journey.
The roof-mounted automatic dishes are the most expensive ones. However, viewing Satellite TV couldn’t be easier in a Motorhome or Caravan using a Fully Automatic Satellite Dish. This plug and play dish comes complete with an indoor control unit (IDU) pre-programmed for the Optus D1 Satellite. You can also program other satellites into the control unit if required. The satellite dish automatically opens then rotates to locate the satellite within 2 minutes.
Once your dish is installed, it’ll need to connect it to your satellite receiver box and your TV. Often, especially with new TV’s the box is built into the TV set, simplifying the process somewhat.
Before you know it, you will be enjoying your favorite Freeview TV programs from the comfort of your own vehicle.
